BANGALORE: Covansys Corporation has opened a new data and operations center in Chennai. The $2 million server facility is expected to improve the ability of Covansys to develop and maintain complex systems and applications for its enterprise clients. It also allows the company to offer the center as an offshore disaster recovery site for clients, complementing a similar data center facility operating in Middletown, Connecticut.

"This significant infrastructure investment in our offshore capabilities demonstrates our commitment to meet the needs of clients seeking to move complex application maintenance development projects offshore," said Covansys, President and Chief Executive Officer, Martin C Clague. "Enterprises are expected to accomplish more work with fewer resources and relatively flat budgets, and that's prompting increased interest in offshore delivery that is not likely to diminish."

"More than 50 clients are currently utilizing our offshore resources and many are extending their original engagements to include new work," said Covansys India, president and chief operating officer, K Subrahmaniam. "The new data center enhances our capacity provide world-class, mission-critical IT services by providing the infrastructure to develop and support emerging client needs."

The data center project caps a year-long, multi-million-dollar investment by Covansys to upgrade its offshore capabilities, including a global communications infrastructure with a fully redundant and secure architecture complete with fault tolerance, load balancing and support for voice, video and data, for increased reliability and performance.

"Robust infrastructure is a critical requirement of leadership in providing top quality, transparent offshore services," said Covansys, Chief Information Officer, John Talieri. "The Chennai data center will allow us to more effectively integrate production operations into our transparent delivery model. It more than doubles data center capacity to support our growing client base, and adds help desk and infrastructure operations features to better serve existing clients."
