Contract with Wheelabrator Tech recycled

FORT LAUDERDALE, USA: Sun Bergeron announced that the company has been successful in award of the solid waste disposal contract for the city of Miramar in Broward County, South Florida. Marking the end of a 25 year monopoly in Broward County held by Wheelabrator Technologies, a Waste Management subsidiary, the contract is claimed as a significant turning point for the industry with the entry of Sun Bergeron into the market increasing competition in the long term.

As the press release adds: It also marks a beneficial change for South Florida taxpayers in the city of Miramar who may now expect to realize substantial price breaks, a new revenue stream, and look forward to a greener future.The contract covers the processing, recycling and disposal of municipal solid waste in Miramar as well as a host of recycling opportunities for C & D, bulk, and vegetative waste. Multi-million dollar savings are expected for Miramar under the new contract that could be passed on to taxpayers who may benefit from the lowest prices for processing, recycling, and disposal of solid waste they’ve seen in years.

Outside of the financial benefits of the new deal, Sun Bergeron is giving the residents of Miramar something even more valuable — the promise of a greener future. Focused on waste diversion and optimizing recycling, Sun Bergeron is focused on providing a cleaner, greener way to process, recycle and dispose of solid waste. “We are committed to bringing innovative processes and technology to Broward County to provide the most environmentally friendly methods of waste disposal available in the United States today,” says Ron Bergeron Sr., president, Sun Bergeron.

As added - Miramar has truly established itself as a government in the sunshine with this new deal. Taking full advantage of the open, competitive procurement process, the city has reaffirmed its commitment of competition and transparency to its citizens. While Miramar is leading the way and establishing itself as a forward thinking, citizen-centric municipality, Sun Bergeron is hopeful that the city is just the first in Broward County to take advantage of the savings and revenue the company can provide. Under the new competitive agreement, 26 of Broward County’s 31 cities are now able to take advantage of and piggyback onto the Miramar contract with Sun Bergeron.

A key goal of Sun Bergeron is to achieve ‘Zero Waste’ for Miramar by optimizing diversion and recycling so that all products are reused and incinerated minimizing landfill. Zero Waste has not till now been a goal for Miramar or Broward County. Sun Bergeron is set to change this and help the city conserve three to five times the amount of energy produced by the historically used method of waste incineration.
