BANGALORE: Consumer Courts in the country will take cognizance of complaints send electronically likely by next year, according to Alka Sirohi, additional secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
“This will be a big step forward to leverage technology for the benefit of consumers,” she said at a function organized by the Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology.
The Ministry has asked Rs 27.30 crores for computerizing Consumer Courts, in its National Action Plan sent to the Planning Commission.
The Planning Commission had identified and included “Consumer Awareness and Redressal and Enforcement of Consumer Protection Act, 1986” as one of the priority agenda for action and asked the Ministry for a National Action Plan.
