MUMBAI: It seems that Indian companies have started designing for OEMs. Mumbai-based Aftek Infosys has come out with a Personal Wireless Gateway called Angelia that offers seamless connectivity to various communication networks like GSM/GPRS, 802.11b and VOIP. The company has designed it in-house in its Pune facility and is awaiting feedback from several telecom service providers who have shown interest in the product.

Aftek chairman and CEO, Ranjit Dhuru said, "we are planning to launch this technology soon in India. It has been developed in our Pune facility and is quite affordable as it has some unmatched features and is the first of its kind of technology that we are going to launch in India and other countries."

The company has started selling this technology in Malaysia, Far East, Korea and Japan. It is being marketed there by G-Tec as Aftek has a marketing tie-up with the company for these markets. In India, the company is yet to formalize the marketing model. According to Dhuru, Aftek is in touch with a couple of global telecom companies that include Siemens and Motorola and in India Reliance. He informed that they have shown interest in the technology and the company is waiting for their feedback.

According to Dhuru, Angelia’s value propositions include Blue Tooth front-end connectivity, Wi-Fi, GSM/GPRS back end connectivity, 802.1x security as well as dual SIM support. Therefore a person having ‘Angelia’ and a palm can surf Internet and make calls simultaneously without even having a cell phone.

Aftek’s Angelia is based on its own ‘Jadoogar’ technology, though its acquisition of Munich-based Arexera Information Technologies was the catalyst behind the initiative. This is by way of Arexera bringing along its client G-tec who is currently marketing Angelia in East Asian markets like Malaysia, Korea with plans to venture into Japan too.

According to the company, in a few months time, it would market this product in India also and is therefore currently negotiating with a host of service providers for this. The company is banking hugely on this technology. Currently, 30 percent of its revenues come from products and 70 percent from services but after Angelia’s launch, Aftek is expecting around 40 percent of its revenues to come from products.
