Talking about the office Dr Dennis Packard, Vice President, Asia-Pacific

Sales, Conexant Systems said, "This office is an attempt to be closer to

our clients in the southern region of the country. Gradually, we shall strive to

set up offices in other major cities in the region too." In yet another

move to boost its business in the country, the company has tied up with Tech

Pacific as its third distributor. The other two distributors in the country are

Spectra Innovations and Westech Electronics.

Justifying its increased focus in the country, Dr Packard says, "India

is at the forefront of technology adoption. Our broad portfolio of

communications solutions gives us the competitive advantage and Indian system

designers are working on emerging technologies like 3G, Bluetooth, home

networking, and digital infotainment."

The company first set up its office and an application lab in New Delhi in

1997, which serves as a regional office for the SAARC region. It has been

working in close alliance with a number of equipment manufacturers like ITI,

HFCL, Avantel and D-Link. It is also in the process of establishing itself in

new technologies like Internet-over-cable, set-top box applications, home

networking and 3G and Bluetooth.

Conexant is already working with two leading domestic players in developing

set-top boxes. Ajesh Kapoor, Country Manager, India, said that Conexant will

soon be offering the silicon semiconductor used in cable modems in the sub $90

category, enabling developers to offer the end-product in the sub Rs 10,000

range.
