ISLANDIA: Computer Associates International Inc. said on Monday that a new
computer "worm" could flood e-mail networks by sending copies of
itself to entries in Microsoft Outlook address book in computers.
Computer Associates, maker of anti-virus software, said the worm does not
contain a payload that damages computers, such as the "ILOVEYOU" bug
that spread to millions of computers earlier this month.
The worm arrives as an e-mail with the subject line "Cool Notepad
Demo" and contains the message that reads "Hey check out this text
file I sent it will do something neat in notepad. Enjoy:-)."
The attachment is named "COOLNOTEPADDEMO.TXT.vbs."
Computer viruses have attracted much attention after the "Love Bug"
struck earlier this month. A computer virus that is described as "killer
resume" had spread across computer networks via e-mail on May 26.
