Compass launches magazine for dealers

 KOLKATA, INDIA: In a recent move to address dealers’ concerns in Kolkata and create technological awareness among its members, Compass has now come up with its in-house publication.

“After the elections last year, we thought of taking out a quarterly magazine to address our members. So we formed a publication cell to take the lead and came up with the idea of the Compaper gradually,” said Rakesh Sharma, Editor, Compaper and Proprietor Sea Infonet.

The magazine will consist of 16 pages of editorial content in a tabloid format. The association has also created a special committee, the Publication Cell headed by Sharma to publish the magazine. Avinash Bagaria of Kolkata-based Vikas Udyog will also be part of the cell.

“In the magazine, we will talk about the latest technologies, explain the concept of recycling and technicalities related to a product and most important of all, we will publish the names of defaulters, if any, to warn other dealers,” Sharma added.

While Compass has come up with this idea and won the appreciation of many, there are still some dealers in Kolkata who are not very happy. While some dealers complained that they are not getting a copy of Compaper on a regular basis, others raised issues related to Compass itself.

Complaining over the mode of circulation, Kamal Agarwal of Computer Network said, “I have not received any copy of the Compaper till now. It is definitely a good move to bring out the names of the defaulters to warn members, but Compaper also needs to look after its circulation.”

On the other hand, dealer dissatisfaction is on a rise within the association. Subhankar Aich of Kolkata-based HUE Service appreciated the move and the launch of Compaper but said that the association needs to communicate more.

“Compass as an organization is doing well. It is appreciable if the defaulters names are published but at the same time, we also need to communicate more. I was not even informed about the last elections and could not vote. Also, we need to focus on regular meetings. Somehow I feel that the association is getting limited to a few people,” he alleged.

He added that Compass needs to keep in mind that there are other people in the association who have various potential and it is better if it is channeled properly. “By communicating more and meeting regularly we can not only enhance communication and optimize usage of resources but will better our deals. Surprisingly enough, I do not even know who the Secretary of Compass is!” he added.

Another partner on the condition of anonymity alleged, “The elections last time was not carried out in the correct manner and we do not know most of the members. If we had conducted at least two member meetings a year, the situation would have been much better. Compass as an organization has become a 40 member association and this scenario needs to change.”

Reacting to the grievances and the allegations put forward, Pawan Jajodia, President, Compass commented, “We have taken the initiative to address dealers concerns in the publication. We may come up with new topics, particularly legal matters, if the members wish so. However, if anybody has any complains regarding any issue, they are welcome to address the same in our office.”

Regarding election procedure, Jajodia clarified that prior to every election Compass sends mailers and calls its members to remind them to cast their votes.

Nullifying the allegations, Jajodia concluded, “Compass is a full-fledged association. We have set up teams and created committees to look after every matter. We are heading towards our next AGM and members are free to deliberate over any issue they wish to address.”
