BANGALORE: Compaq India delivered the first commercial desktop personal computer, the Compaq DeskPro EP, integrated in India. The first Compaq DeskPro was formally delivered to M/s Titan Industries Ltd. and the system with serial number 1 was received by Titan Industries Vice President - Information Technology N. Kailasnathan.

Compaq India will have the capability to integrate 7,000 commercial desktops per month, and can deliver customized PCs with significantly lower lead-time to customers in India. "Compaq has always taken the leadership role in India, be it in cost reductions or bringing the latest technology to the Indian market. We are extremely pleased to start integration of the Compaq Deskpro range in India which is a significant milestone in the history of Compaq in India," said Compaq India Managing Director Balu Doraisamy.

Compaq India will now deliver customised configurations to the customer in terms of both hardware as well as software, including customers applications pre-loaded. The facility will have the capability for the staging of customer requirements whereby customer-orders can be consolidated and shipped, and to multiple locations if need be. Thus, ready-to-run systems can be shipped, eliminating the manpower and time costs incurred by the customer incorporating third party hardware and software at their own premises. This will benefit not only end- customers, but also Compaq Channel Partners by eliminating the need for hardware and software integration on-site.

Compaq India will also benefit from the configuration centre by realising the benefits of better inventory control, resulting in faster turnaround times, lower work-in-progress costs, and increased flexibility.
