NEW DELHI, September 1: Compaq, announced
the launch of its 8-way server models in India. The servers, developed in
collaboration with Intel, come in two models-- Proliant 8000 and 8500,
based on the 8-way Profusion Symmetric Multi-processor (SMP) architecture.
It provides almost total linear scalability for 8-way processor servers
operating Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, Novell NetWare, SCO
Unix and Linux. The prices of the Proliant 8000 and 8500 are dependent on
the configuration of the system. The entry-level configuration of Proliant
8500 with one PIII Xeon 550 MHz processor, 512 KB Level 2 Cache and 256 MB
RAM would be approximately Rs 12 lakh while 8000 will cost Rs 20 lakh for
the same configuration with two PIII Xeons. Financial institutions,
Government sectors and Enterprise applications are the targeted audience
in India.
According to Compaq India Managing Director Balu Doraisamy, "With
the launch of Proliant 8000 and 8500, Compaq will be able to address high
growth business segments such as ERP, ISP, Web related applications and
any application of large databases."
This architecture will power the most demanding applications in the
organization, like e-commerce, decision support, ERP, messaging and
collaboration, with the scalability and performance for a new generation
of business computing. The 16 GB SDRAM, dual memory controllers and
point-to-point data access optimize response time and reduce bottlenecks
for ERP applications. Balanced memory, I/O and processing scalability. It
provides faster access to data, thereby enhancing competitiveness and
accommodates more users than the conventional server. With the launch of
these servers, Compaq hopes to change the competitive landscape for
eBusiness infrastructure, redefine the server marketplace and generate
major new revenue opportunities.
