Compaq Launches new desktops, portables & workstations

BANGALORE: Compaq India has launched a new series of Armada portables, deskpro PCs, workstations and security solutions like new Smart Card technology and an enhanced version of Fingerprint Identification technology.

According to a press release, to control costs and reduce the complexity of IT environment of customers, Compaq launched four models of the Deskpro EN series and Deskpro Small Form Factor PC with advanced features. The new features of the DVD decoder card and graphics controller card will enhance performance in 3D applications. The New Smart Card Technology for network security will help customers conduct secure eBusiness over the Internet. In addition, the enhanced Fingerprint Identification Technology will provide for the enrollment of up to eight fingers per user. Compaq has also introduced the Armada E500 series, the commercial notebook line and the Armada V300 series, the value notebook for the budget conscious user.

The new models incorporate a standard Armada MultiBay for the ultimate configuration flexibility and provide MiniPCI communications solutions. The V300 model has an internal Mini PCI 56K V.90 Modem, a TV out port for connection to external video sources including DVD playback.



Compaq has three new models of Professional workstations —AP 550, SP 750, upgraded version of AP 400 and a Deskpro Workstation AP 250. The Deskpro AP 250 is ideal for database development and software engineering environments. The Professional AP 550 is engineered for technical and graphics applications while the SP 750 is for graphics power. The Professional AP 400, is a dual processor-capable system.

The enhanced Fingerprint Identification Technology is a peripheral device used to capture, digitalize and authenticate a human fingerprint, will be upgraded with the next-generation of biometric security software, BioLogon 2.0. This product is priced at Rs 6,500 and allows integration with smart card devices, provides for the enrollment of up to eight fingers per user, and works on both stand-alone and networked systems in an enterprise. It also eliminates the need for passwords completely, while providing IT administrators with easy-to-use management tools for implementing and deploying strict security policies over the network to individual users, user groups and individual workstations.
