BANGALORE: Compaq India has bagged the deal to provide a disaster recovery
solution to Global Trust Bank (GTB), which includes Compaq's high performance
AlphaServer Global Series servers and storage subsystems at GTB's disaster
recovery site in Mumbai.
The win closely follows Compaq's AlphaServer GS 320 order from Global Trust
Bank in December 2000 for GTB's centralized core banking and database operations
at its headquarters in Hyderabad. The implementation is one of the first
instances of a financial institution in India implementing a true disaster
recovery solution deployed across States. The Disaster Recovery solution
consists of Compaq AlphaServer GS160 servers as the database and application
servers, and Compaq StorageWorks EMA 12000 and TL895 as the storage subsystem.
The solution has been implemented at the Tata Internet Centre in Mumbai and
will provide GTB with increased availability and backup of critical core banking
and database application data running at its primary site in Hyderabad, which is
also powered by an AlphaServer Global Series cluster. This is facilitated
through regular Oracle log shipping over a 2Mbps E1 link.
GTB president, P C Narayan said, "Data security and backup of critical
data has become increasingly important today and as a bank, we were on the
lookout for a solution that would provide a high degree of reliability,
scalability and round the clock availability without compromising on
performance. Compaq has been able to provide us this stability at our primary
site in Hyderabad and therefore was our logical choice for a remote disaster
recovery solution."
"The disaster recovery solution implemented for GTB is one of the first
ever disaster recovery solutions deployed in India across states for a financial
institution," said, Compaq India's Director Enterprise and Sales Neelam
Dhawan. "This win emphasizes Compaq's capability to continue being an end
-to-end solutions provider for high end mission critical IT deployments across
industries and sectors".
