BANGALORE: Compaq Computer India has merged its consumer and commercial
personal computing operations under one entity called the Access Business Group.
This is part of a worldwide initiative undertaken by Compaq to realize shared
technical synergies, derive greater operating efficiencies and to provide a
single source for all products, services and information suited to the
customers.
The new group will spearhead a range of exciting products aimed at
facilitating Internet access such as Home and Office desktops, portables,
handhelds, MP3 players, Internet Access Devices and Services.
Ravi Swaminathan, who was previously heading Compaq’s Consumer Division,
has been appointed as the director for Access Business Group in India. The
vision for the newly formed Access Business Group is to provide anytime,
anywhere access to information, communication and entertainment.
The emphasis for the group is on redefining the Internet experience -
focusing on the needs of the customer, be it a business or home consumer. This
is being achieved through the delivery of traditional PCs and the X-generation
Internet access devices, as well as through the integration of wireless and
broadband capabilities, and "above the box" packaged content and
services. Access is a key part of Compaq’s corporate strategy, which also
builds on infrastructure and partnerships.
Commenting on the group, Compaq Computer India MD Balu Doraisamy said,
"The Internet has led to convergence in the market and access plays a
significant role in delivering a true Internet experience. Through this new
group, Compaq aims to lead the evolution of the access market and deliver added
value to our customers in an efficient and effective manner".
