BANGALORE, September 9 : Compaq India has announced that the Indian
Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (iiit-b) has selected Compaq
Armada Portable Computers for its students. Every student enrolling in the
iiit-b Post Graduate Program in Information Technology starting in
September 1999 will be provided with a Compaq Armada Portable Computer for
the duration of the course. All staff of iiit-b will also use Compaq
Armada Portables. In addition, iiit-b will also install three Compaq
ProLiant 3000 Servers and one Compaq AlphaServer DS10 as their central
computing resource.
All students will now be able to study and work on-line throughout the
duration of the 15-month program at iiit-b. Since each system is provided
with a modem, they will be able to log-in to the institute from home as
well. This will aid not only learning, but also Student Faculty
interaction, and make it possible to implement a new way of teaching the
subject. This facility has been made possible through a special
grant-in-aid of Rs 67 Lakh from Compaq, as part of the industry
sponsorship of iiit-b.
Using Compaq's industry leading Intelligent Manageability tools, iiit-b
will be able to track and manage the assets of all the Compaq Armadas
deployed from a single point. The Compaq Armada Portables PC's each have a
built-in modem for connectivity and drive-lock features for asset
protection. Each student will use a Compaq Armada 1500, while the faculty
will be equipped with Compaq Armada 1750 portable PCs. 3 Compaq ProLiant
3000 Servers and one Compaq AlphaServer DS10 will power the network. All
the resources in iiit-b can be managed by a single IT Manager.
