Companies which can't innovate have no future: PWC software leader

BANGALORE, INDIA: The software industry is witnessing newer trends than ever before and is going through a transformational phase, believes Mark McCaffrey, PwC's Global Software leader.

Earlier, the risk was on the user. But today, consumers of technology no longer want to take that risk. So the whole value preposition is shifting. Consumption based model is much different than deployment based model. So, it necessitates s/w and tech industry to do something that they had done never before, Mark McCaffrey said in an interaction with CIOL recently.

According to the software leader, companies, today, have the the need to have a good relation with customers and know if the end-users likes and dis-likes their products. Mobile devices are becoming touch points of use of technology than ever before and cloud allows one to be connected while on the move.

"So the tech industry is trying to cross over this canyon to get there . So you see companies focusing on SaaS model from preposition model. You see some of the bigger software companies trying to buy that ability today, but they are slow to get there as entire sales force is built on old models.

"One thing that is becoming very unique in the industry today is that innovation is happening more often. It is getting to market quicker."

"It is lot more disruptive to more matured technology companies weather it is a mobile application company or a big data company . The rate adoption is so fast today that your (companies) ability as an innovative company to take away significant market share from larger companies is a lot easy. So, matured companies face the risk."

According to Mark McCaffrey, if innovations are not fast enough there is there. Your (Companies) ability as an innovative company to take significant market share away from larger companies . We see lot more investments in the VCs. bigger companies are buying companies that are coming out with disruptive technologies. So the transformation is creating the industry to shift. and with that shift it is giving lot more opportunity to innovative companies.
