A number of factors have resulted in bringing current QA methodologies to this tipping point. These factors include: increased technical platform complexity, shifting customer expectations, iterative development methodologies (e.g. Agile) and a news business outlook on the true cost of bug discovery.

A growing trend of Community-Based Testing can be seen today, which responds to these issues. By leveraging an existing community of testers, software vendors are achieving higher quality c releases at significantly lower QA costs, while simultaneously improving the time-to-market of iterative software releases.

The benefits of Community Testing are especially noticeable in organizations that adhere to the agile development process. A software release schedule is provided, based on a Case Study of a successful bi-weekly release cycle.
