Narayana Murthy was in Mumbai to attend a press conference organized by Union

Bank of India to announce its tie up with Infosys and Wipro Infotech for core

banking solutions, wherein, Wipro Infotech will be the system integrator and

Infosys will provide its core banking solution Finacle and its Internet banking

solution Bankaway.

Speaking on the occasion Murthy said, ‘I am very excited about the

opportunity for Infosys to be a strategic technology partner of the leading

public sector bank, Union Bank of India. The continued faith that Indian banks

repose in Infosys, while looking for a dependable, committed partner is very

heartening and we stand committed to meeting the technology requirements of

banks in India.’

Speaking to myiris.com, Murthy said Infosys’ tie-up with Union Bank of

India is a perfect example of how two companies that are competing at one end

can bring in complementary skills to the table to offer customized solutions to

the customer.

‘It has certain advantages as well,’ said Murthy, adding, ‘it brings

the two companies closer as there is close co-operation and also a closer

working relationship between the companies.’

When asked whether the two companies could put in joint bids in the future to

offer solutions to customers either in India or abroad, Narayana Murthy replied

in a positive. ‘Certainly, if the opportunity arises we would be happy to work

together,’ he said.
