Cognizant unveils new Techno-campus in Coimbatore

CHENNAI, INDIA: Cognizant, a provider of information technology services, today announced the inauguration of its new techno-campus in Coimbatore by M.K. Stalin, the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. A. Raja, Minister of Information Technology and Communications, Government of India, Dr. Poongothai, Minister of Information Technology, Government of Tamil Nadu, and several senior government officials and industry leaders also graced the occasion.

Located in Keeranatham village off Saravanampatti in Coimbatore, the 23-acre techno-campus is part of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), said a press release.

The first phase of the project, built at a cost of around Rs 180 crore and comprising a state-of-the-art seven-storey techno-campus with a capacity to accommodate over 6,000 professionals, was declared open by the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. This is among the largest IT facilities in an emerging IT city in India, the release added.

“This techno-campus will help us leverage the many strengths of Coimbatore such as good talent pool, sound educational infrastructure, high levels of work and professional ethics, entrepreneurial culture, and a thriving industrial ecosystem,” said R Chandrasekaran, President and Managing Director, Global Delivery, Cognizant.

He added that they were happy to expand their operations in Coimbatore and take the benefits of their success to a larger community, thereby contributing to inclusive and equitable growth.

“Our growth in Coimbatore has surpassed our expectations. We started operations in 2005 with approximately 50 professionals and have ramped up to over 2,200 professionals today, servicing global customers in four industry clusters—financial services; healthcare; manufacturing and retail; and information, media and entertainment,” said Vishnu Potty, vice president and head of Coimbatore Operations, Cognizant.

He added that they believed their excellent delivery track record from Coimbatore, their CMMi Level 5 assessment on the latest model, and the factory model approach would help them sustain their growth momentum.
