CNS staffer wins MPNarayana Pillai award

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: R Sreekumar, journalist, Business- IT, and representative

of Cyber News Service, a division of Cyber Media (I) Ltd. has won the third

MPNarayana Pillai Memorial Journalism Award instituted by Dhanam Business

Magazine.

It was his weekly column Economic Review in the Malayalam News

daily, a subsidiary of Arab News published from Saudi Arabia that won for

him the award comprising Rs 10,000 and a plaque. The award, which is given

annually, is for the best column/article published in Malayalam. It was a three

member panel consisting of V P Ramachandran, senior journalist and former

chairman of Kerala Press Academy, M K Das, former editor (Kerala) of the Indian

Express
and C J George, MD of Geojith Securities Ltd. that selected him for

the award.

"The simple but illuminating way Sreekumar analyses topics of national

importance as well as those relating to the problems of Kerala is laudable and

worthy of recognition," the judging committee observed.

A graduate in Economics and a post graduate in Journalism, Sreekumar was

Thiruvananthapuram correspondent of the Financial Express from 1996-01,

which he joined as sub editor in 1995. Also a moderator of Asianet business

programs, he had started his award-winning column in Malayalam News in

1999.

R Sreekumar is the son of Late R Raghavan Nair and K Parukutty Amman of P C

Vilasom, Plamood, Pattom Thiruvananthapuram. His wife is Aswathy (pharmacist)

and they have a son Darshan aged two.
