CMU to offer software engineering education in India

NEW DELHI: Shri Sivasubramaniya Nadar Educational and Charitable Trust (SSNECT),

a non profit institution founded by HCL Technologies chairman Shiv Nadar, has

announced its collaboration with the Institute for Software Research

International (ISRI) of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to offer software

engineering education in the country. This will be done through the SSN School

of Advanced Software Engineering (SSNSASE) located in Chennai. Under this

collaboration faculty members will also be trained.

SSNSASE will begin offering the courses of the Master of Science in

Information Technology/ Software Engineering (MSIT/SE) degree in India and would

cover other information technology domains which include e- commerce,

networking, security etc.

The course will start in mid September of this year and the first batch would

comprise of 15 to 17 students. The fees for the entire course would be Rs 4 lakh.

In order to provide hands-on practical knowledge, students successful in the

CMU's validation test, at the completion of the course, will be assigned a

three- month real time project in India, followed by a six — month practice at

CMU leading to Master's degree from Carnegie Mellon.

The course is fully residential. It is a nine course skill certification

program which involves five core courses, one preparatory course and three

electives will enable students to acquire technical skills. Speaking on the

occasion Shiv Nadar said, " By partnering with CMU, SSN School of Advanced

Software Engineering will be able to offer high- quality masters courses in

software engineering to the aspiring students in India, at an affordable price

right here in India."
