CALIFORNIA, USA: The worldwide cable modem termination systems (CMTS) and edge quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) market grew 10 percent in 2Q10 over 1Q10. The main drivers behind the quarter’s growth include strong demand for DOCSIS 3.0 channels and the push to lay the groundwork to deliver IPTV services, finds Infonetics Research.

Cisco led a strong second quarter in CMTS port shipments and revenue, capturing 58 percent of worldwide revenue. Cable operators continue to add both downstream and upstream capacity for DOCSIS 3.0 and some early IPTV deployments in Europe. Edge QAMs also saw an eight percent revenue increase, driven by growth in video on demand and switched digital video deployments,” notes Jeff Heynen, directing analyst for broadband access at Infonetics Research.

The quarter’s growth came from North America (+17 percent), EMEA (+23 percent), and Asia Pacific (+72 percent).

The Central and Latin America region (CALA) showed a predictable decline on the heels of triple-digit growth in the previous quarter.

Harmonic, thanks to its ongoing VoD deployments with operators worldwide, returned to the top spot among edge QAM vendors.
