But the association withdrew its support to the event at the nth hour on account of lack of co-operation from the sponsors (Trade Expo India Promotion) and ill-treatment given to their representatives.

According to Puneet Singhal, President, CMDA, “The sponsors of the event promised us a stall free of cost at the event so that we could use it to effectively display our products. However, later when we displayed our machines at the stall, they stated that we did not posses the right to put the same on display. They have also misused our logo by mentioning CMDA as the supporting organization, without prior approval from us.”

Singhal further added that the office bearers of CMDA did not attend the event due to this treatment meted out to their representatives.

Manoj Khanna, Secretary, CMDA added, “Last year, almost all the members of CMDA attended Re-India expo. However, this year, in view of the recession and CMDA being a non-profit organization, we resolved to send two of our representatives who could have borne the boarding and lodging fee in Mumbai, while attending the event. The machines displayed by our representatives was part of CMDA technology demonstration initiative. However, the sponsors of the event did not allow them to display the machines and sent them packing, and also misbehaved with them.”

On the other hand, Veerendra Chopra, a member of the Trade Expo India Promotion stated, “We had allotted a stall to CMDA members thinking that they would use it effectively to promote their association and related activities. However, in the morning we noticed that a re-manufacturer, who was also a representative of CMDA, had displayed a huge machine in their stall. We could not have allowed a re-manufacturer to promote his machine and hence we asked the two representatives to vacate the stall.”

Reacting to the charge that Trade Expo India Promotion had misused CMDA’s logo, Chopra mentioned that the association had signed an agreement with them that clearly stated that organizing committee possessed the right to use their logo as the supporting organization. “Last year CMDA, Cartridge Recyclers and Traders Association of India (CRTAI) and Indian Cartridge Remanufacturers and Recyclers Association (ICRRA) had supported us during the Re-India Expo; we allowed them to promote their association and thereby the activities undertaken by them as part of creating awareness and promoting the trade further.”

Meanwhile, CMDA has resolved to communicate the ill-treatment that their representatives were subjected to during the event and will also raise the matter before Recharger magazine, the supporting media publication.

“We have boycotted the event and will never support them in future. In addition, we will also take legal recourse since they have misused the association’s logo without prior approval from us,” clarified Khanna.
