BANGALORE: Citrix Systems, Inc. has announced it's plans to acquire PowerTel
BOCA Ltd., to set up a wholly owned subsidiary in India, subject to Government
approval. The acquisition will enable Citrix, a player in application server
software and services, to accelerate its expansion in the Asia Pacific region.
The acquisition will provide Citrix with a network of established offices
throughout India, an experienced management, sales, marketing and technical
team, and access to about 500 local resellers to complement its existing
distribution and channel partner relationships. Citrix Systems Asia Pacific
managing director Nabeel Youakim said, "For some time now, Citrix has been
looking to accelerate its expansion in India in response to growing demand for
our application server products and services."
Citrix has been evaluating acquisition opportunities in India for the past 6
months with the help of a number of global consulting organizations including
Ernst & Young and KPMG. "Our track record and success in the enterprise
market, plus our established channel relationships, are in perfect alignment
with Citrix," said PowerTel BOCA managing director Dinesh Puri.
According to a press release issued by the company, Citrix will make job
offers to all of PowerTel BOCA's 40 and above employees, including Mr Puri who
is set to become Citrix's managing director for India. Citrix will announce the
full structure of the new Indian company and its operations within the next
month.
