Cisco, TCS announce strategic alliance

MUMBAI, INDIA: Cisco, the global leader in networks and Tata Consultancy Service, leading IT and outsourcing services provider, today announced that they have entered into a strategic alliance.

The alliance will focus to develop and deliver information technology (IT) service solutions to help customers build or evolve next generation data centers by taking advantage of the network as a platform.

Initially, the alliance will focus on India as well as mutual enterprise customers in the US and UK in the key verticals of banking and finance services, telecom, government, along with small and medium sized business.

Under this partnership, TCS will build a new technology practice focused on Cisco’s data center networking and security solutions. Further, both companies have called for setting up a Cisco Technology Lab at the TCS campus in Chennai.

Moreover, the lab will allow TCS to develop network-based data center solutions, test frameworks, develop skills and certify employees in Cisco data center technologies. It aims to showcase proof-of-concepts, IT and networking technologies for client-specific business processes and services.

On the occasion, TCS’s CEO and managing director, S Ramadorai said, “Today’s dynamic business environment needs strategic partnership and partners to weather the storm. And we are delighted to have alliance with Cisco and we welcome John Chambers to India.”

Further Ramadorai explained that both companies are developing go-to-market solutions that meets the infrastructure and network requirements of global corporations, and also will invest in human resources and training labs to address customer requirements.

According to Cisco’s CEO John Chambers, Cisco and TCS can focus on data centers, data centric networks and services to help customers and also the small and medium size business (SMB) globally.

“Customers are demanding greater dynamism from their IT infrastructure and application environment to address current challenges and to capitalize on opportunities whenever and wherever they emerge,” said N Chandrasekaran, COO and executive director, TCS.

On the size of partnership and investment, Chandrasekaran said, “Each company has invested about $ 50 million plus in this partnership. The alliance focuses on multidimensional complex and multiyear contracts in field of data center, networks, security solutions and services for customers. A team of 500 are working presently and will be doubled in next five year.”

Commenting about the company’s presence and significance of India, Wim Elfrink, chief globalization officer (CGO) and executive vice president of Cisco Services said, “About 10 years back Cisco started working in India, mainly to arbitrage the labor but in last two and half years, according to our policy to catch the market transition we have done about $ 1.2 billion investments here.”
