Cisco signs MOU with Karnataka govt

BANGALORE, INDIA: Cisco, a provider in networking and communication solutions today, in the presence of Chief Minister, Dr. B.S Yeddyurappa and John Chambers, chairman and CEO, Cisco, signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Karnataka government for developing a road map for an intelligent and sustainable Bangalore city.

The company today also unveiled its holistic blueprint for “Intelligent Urbanisation,” a global initiative to help cities around the world use the network as the next utility for integrated city management, better quality of life for citizens, and economic development.

The MOU was signed by Naresh Wadhwa, president and country manager, Cisco India and SAARC and Ashok Kumar Manoli, principal secretary, IT and bio-technology, the government of Karnataka.

As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Cisco would work with the Karnataka government to share relevant experiences and best practices from its work in other parts of the world, including conducting workshops, requirement studies and architectural designs for the pilot project.

Dr. B.S Yeddyurappa, said,“ Bangalore being one of the fastest growing cities in Asia, The demand for better infrastructure management is increasing.”

He added that through this 'Intelligent Urbanization' initiative, the city could enjoy world class infrastructure, better managed and energy efficient city, security, improved health care and education, and good job opportunities.

Cisco would work with Karnataka State Road Transport Corp. and the Karnataka police to improve public safety and security around one of the major bus terminals in Bengaluru.

The project would help enable public safety and security at strategic points within the terminal, offering remote monitoring capabilities with real time information.

“Government plays a key role in development and progress. The agreement between the Karnataka government and Cisco initiates the public and private partnership for public welfare and addressing key issues.” said Chambers.

As a part of corporate responsibility, the company has provided the KSRTC bus stand with network video surveillance.
