NEW DELHI: Cisco Systems led the LAN switching market in India with 40 per
cent market share for the period April to June 2000, according to a recent IDC
Asia Pacific research report. IDC is the world’s leading provider of
technology intelligence, industry analysEs and market data to builders,
providers and users of information technology.
IDC’s study, which also covered vendors such as 3Com, Cabletron,
Hewlett-Packard, Intel and Nortel Networks, showed the next nearest LAN
switching provider with only 15 per cent market share, establishing Cisco as the
clear leader in the Indian market.
Cisco’s multi-service switches offer the world’s most cost effective
platforms for implementing ATM, frame relay, IP, circuit emulation, and voice
services. These switches use leading edge MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching)
technology allowing data to seamlessly cross from IP to ATM networks. Cisco is
the only vendor to provide true MPLS capabilities, eliminating the costly
translation involved with IP "over" ATM. The MPLS products enable a
full spectrum of services over a single multi-service network.
Cisco’s multi-service switches range from the top of the line Catalyst 8500
series switch routers to the flagship Catalyst 6000 series switches down to
solutions designed for branch offices or small and medium businesses such as the
Catalyst 3500 series and the Catalyst 2900 series switches.
