CIPET gets a new name; will now be devoted to petrochemical sector

CIPET has today got a new name. It will now be called the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) instead of "Plastic"

CIPET, the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology has today got a new name. It will now be called the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET). Further, it will also be under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.

According to DV Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, the university will now fully devote itself to the petrochemicals sector. Also, It will teach and upskills students in the same, and continue to support India in Technology and R&D.

The primary objective of CIPET has been contributing to the growth of the plastics industry. It has done so, through a combined program of education and research. It has evolved over the years. Moreover, it has created closer ties with industries with the intent to create innovative plastic-based solutions which are resource-efficient and marketable.

Further, it will work to enhance the growth of Indian chemical sector.

History of CIPET

The Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (or CIPET) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (India). It has various campuses across the country. The University conducts joint exams every year. Admission to these centres is only possible through these joint entrance examination. It is situated in five places. These are Bhubaneswar, Hajipur, Khunti, Murthal and Raipur. Also, it is affiliated to AICTE.

The institute has specialized Academic and Skill Development Training Programs in the field of Polymer Science & Technology. This helps to provide qualified students with entrepreneurship qualities for Polymer & Allied Industries. Further, it provides technical support to Consultancy Services in the fields of design, tooling, plastics processing, testing & quality assurance. It also provides inspection services to the plastics industries vis QMS. Additionally, it has a dedicated R & D wings on Plastic Materials & Product development. It aims to develop New Polymeric Materials and its Applications from Technology Transfer, Intellectual Property (IP) and Knowledge Base.
