NEW DELHI: Cyber India Online Ltd. (CIOL), an Indian IT portal, has launched
its online channel for eGovernance. The initiative was prompted by the fact that
eGovernance is going to usher in an era of streamlined and efficient
inter-governmental as well as government-to-public information flow and
management processes. The new CIOL-eGovernance channel will be a contribution
towards catalyzing the growth of eGovernance in India.
The channel will help effective interaction between eGovernance managers by
offering a common platform for disseminating global practices through a
combination of content, resources as well as an interactive platform. The
channel provides latest eGovernance initiatives, news, features, interviews with
government and industry drivers, white papers and case studies. The channel will
also feature a resource section with state gateways and categorized links.
"I firmly believe that IT can be a tool for empowering citizens. At
present, many government departments and functionaries have a monopoly in
dispensing services," said Chandrababu Naidu, the Andhra Pradesh Chief
Minister in an interview to CIOL eGovernance channel. "It is possible using
networks to provide both government information and services to the common man.
Thus, the whole process of decision-making in government will become more
transparent and accountable, ultimately resulting in the empowerment of ordinary
citizens," he added.
Some of the eminent personalities who have offered support to
CIOL-eGovernance initiative are Aruna Sundararajan, IT Secretary of Kerala,
Randeep Sudan, Special Secretary to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Anandakrishan,
advisor to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on IT and eGovernance and Vivek
Kulkarni, Karnataka IT Secretary.
