CIOL becomes a new entity

BANGALORE, September 9 : Cyber India Online Ltd (CIOL),

the Internet division of Cyber Media India Ltd (CMIL), has been hived off

as a separate company. CIOL, an IT portal, became a separate entity from

September 1, 1999. It provides IT news, views, technology write-ups and

all that's important in Indian IT. The company plans to introduce employee

stock option plan soon.

The site Ciol.com, which was launched in August

1996, has won several awards like Best of Asia-Pacific Website, Chip Web

Award `99, Best Indian Webzine site from bestindiansites.com, best career

section from Infoseek. Recently it was rated the number one website by

Netcentric services.

Some of the other features of the site are

information and reviews of products, the latest news and analysis on IT

industry, IT stock reports, poll of the week on recent and interesting

topics like virus, among others. One of the interesting features is the

forum called Ask the Genie -- where one can ask questions about their PC

problems. It also provides with `Cyber Times', a free newsletter, which a

visitor can subscribe to.
