CII TN chapter to push for IT parks in tier 2 cities

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)
would push for establishing IT parks in Madurai and Coimbatore in the coming

fiscal, the new President Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu has said.






Talking to CyberMedia News on the sidelines of unveiling the new theme
'innovate to compete' for the coming year, Sanjay said that Tamil Nadu was

the 3rd largest economy in the country, with about 3 percent growth rate, which

attracts major IT, ITES and BPO investments into the State.






“We would work towards speeding up the Siruseri Park, and work on the IT
Express Highway in Chennai, and establishment of IT parks in Madurai, Coimbatore

and Trichy in the current fiscal,” he said, adding that infrastructure had to

be developed in the tier two cities which would witness the next level of growth

in the State.






For this purpose, a Job Fair would be conducted in Trichy, a telecom summit —
Connect at Chennai during August, apart from a Coimbatore IT.com event in

November 2006.






Pointing out that the recent survey on Skill Mapping in Tamil Nadu showed a gap
between 'what the industries want' and what is 'available out there in

quality and quantity, Sanjay said that CII would promote skill development

initiatives.






“We intend to work with educational with educational institutions, including
ITIs and Engineering Colleges for this purpose,” he added in this regard.






CII would also establish a Centre for Regional Innovation apart from promoting
Regional Research Institutes to facilitate interaction with the industry and the

academia.
