Chinese team evinces interest in Bengal IT sector

KOLKATA, INDIA: A visiting Chinese delegation on Wednesday evinced interest in collaborating with West Bengal in the information technology sector.

"We have special interest in information technology, HRD, outsourcing and creation of IT infrastructure, as we have come to know that West Bengal is one of the leading giants in those fields," said Li Heliu, director general of China's Kunming Municipal government.

Li, who is leading a 22-member delegation from China's Yunan province, was speaking at an interaction session with representatives of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce.

Li said his delegation would meet officials of the IT sector during their stay here.

State IT Minister Debesh Das said West Bengal needs to advance more in hardware in which the Chinese have progressed a lot.

"We have advanced in software but we need to advance more in hardware. China has advanced a lot in hardware sector. So both sides can benefit from collaboration in the IT sector," said Das.
