When we talk about most popular smartphones in India, the first names that come to mind are usually Samsung, Apple or Micromax, given its affordability. But seems like we have a new entrant to this list now.

OPPO Mobiles, for the very first time, has overtaken Apple to reserve a spot for itself in the Top 2 smartphones in India by value in August 2016 as per Germany-based market research firm GFK.

This feat comes right after the launch of the Selfie Expert OPPO F1s in August. The Selfie Expert F1s came with a 16MP front camera and Beautify function apart from a 0.22s lightning fast fingerprint unlocks and good battery endurance – a combination of powerful features desired by the young Indian consumers.

That’s why we have invested a lot in offering the consumers high-quality camera phones with a strong focus on the front camera. Going forward we will continue investing in photography technology, design and offering the best consumer experience.”

The brand has also clocked in a growth of 16 percent in comparison to the previous month.

OPPO’s fast growth can also be attributed to the aggressive expansion of offline channel strategy and successful marketing campaigns targeted towards reaching out the young consumers.

OPPO has been expanding its offline presence by targeting 35,000 Point of Sales and 180 after sales service centres for giving its consumers a better experience.

Apple had 6.3 percent sales value share, followed by Reliance’s Lyf and Micromax with 6.1 percent and 5.4 percent shares, respectively in the month.

South Korean brand Samsung leads the market with 46.9 percent value market share in August 2016.
