Google, which partially withdrew from the Chinese market last year, saw its market share shrink to 18.9 per cent this quarter from 19.2 percent in the previous quarter, data from Beijing-based technology firm Analysys International showed.

Sohu's and Tencent Holdings' search engines saw a marked increase in their market share this quarter, with Sohu's Sogou growing nearly 1 percentage point and Tencent's Soso growing half-a-percentage point.

Sogou's chief executive told Reuters this week that he is aiming to overtake Google by market share in China within a year.
