China Unicom inks energy deal with NSN

Nokia Siemens NetworksNEW DELHI, INDIA: China Unicom today announced that it has entered into a strategic deal with Nokia Siemens Network(NSN) to deploy NSN’ Energy Solutions at China Unicom’s subsidiary in Anhui province.

The energy solutions from NSN includes cooling box and battery cooling cabinet to reduce the energy consumption of its mobile base transceiver station (BTS) sites by as much as 20 p.c, said a press release.

The energy solutions would help in lowering the average ambient temperatures to reduce the dependency on expensive air-conditioning reducing total power consumption.

“It will help us meet the government imperative to mobile operators to reduce energy consumption. In the long run, it will also help us reduce our network operating costs from anywhere between 10-30 p.c, while improving service availability,” said Li Chao, general manager of Anhui Unicom.

Energy Solutions from NSN would provide a comprehensive approach to reduce energy consumption in telecom networks, which accounts for 86 p.c of the total energy consumed by operators or 10 -30 p.c of network operating expenditure.

It helps operators achieve reduced energy bills while contributing positively to environmental sustainability and helps them meet their corporate social responsibility objectives, the release added.
