According to the security firm, 2.53 million Android devices in the world were hit with malware or viruses earlier this year, with most infections taking place in China.

The security firm has attributed the infections to flood of popular low-cost, “white box” Android phones available in China. These phones often run outdated versions of software and do not have the level of support and patches provided by bigger carriers.

According to NetQin, US ranked second on the list of countries affected with 7.6 pc, Russia was next at 6.1 pc, followed by India at 3.4 pc, Indonesia with 3.2 pc, Hong Kong at 2.7 pc and lastly the UK at 2.1 pc.
