The service, which has been approved by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the Norway- headquartered, ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System) certification body, would be provided through the SaaS model to the enterprises of any range.

The AVARS is an online-based service to scan and report vulnerabilities in IT systems that are used in Internet for purposes like website hosting, email, e-commerce, e-governance, e-banking and any other activities such as blogs, social networking to name a few.

A vulnerability is a hole or an error in the operating system or office applications or database applications like Oracle or web server such as apache and IIS and so on, which could be considered as a weakness and hackers with malicious intent can exploit such weakness to gain unauthorized access to the systems. Claiming that there are nearly 30,000 published vulnerabilities and nearly 25 new vulnerabilities identified everyday, ML Srinivasan, Founder and CEO, ChennaiNet.com said that AVARS would scan and access the known and unknown vulnerabilities using standard tools and techniques.

“AVARS provided on demand and cost effective automated vulnerability scanning and reporting through Internet, includes compliance with third party certification from DNV. This service helps organizations to proactively manage IT vulnerabilities and could be integrated in their governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) framework,” Srinivasan informed.

ChennaiNet would be offering vulnerability assessment as well as vulnerability management services, where it will help the customers to identify the vulnerability and apply necessary patches immediately.

The salient features of the AVARS include automated scanning and reporting; on demand, cost effective scanning through Internet and compliance and third party certification. While the on demand scan could be used to schedule scans at pre-interval, compliance and third party certification will enable the organizations to secure a certification for their vulnerability management program from Det Norske Veritas (DNV), giving greater confidence to their customers and users.

Srinivasan said that the service would be charged at Rs 5,000 per IP address for a quarter and for more number of addresses, the charge would come down considerably. He also revealed that the company would be coming out with a model to offer this service to the customers.

NR Krishna Kumar, Director—Operations, Det Norske Veritas (DNV), said that the company has partnered with ChennaiNet since IT network vulnerability is an area requiring specialized skills. “DNV has evaluated AVARS and it has many advanced features and capabilities. We have bundled a certification scheme with it since we believe that customers and regulators will bring in tighter compliance requirements in this area. We are certain that the value addition is very high for this innovative and cost effective service,” Kumar added.
