BANGALORE: Hutchison Telecom, one of India's leading cellular service providers, with a subscriber base of over 4 lakh customers in Karnataka has launched a unique public service for mobile users across Bangalore.

Called 'Mobile Recharge Zone', this facility has been made available at key public areas across Bangalore city, where mobile users will be able to charge their phones, so that they always stay connected.

Every 'Mobile Recharge Zone' unit has eight mobile chargers of various brands (Nokia, Samsung, Panasonic etc.). It also has a provision for using one's own charger. These units have been installed at different locations across Bangalore - government offices, bus stations, hospitals, restaurants, multiplexes, airport, clubs, corporates, university canteens, shopping malls, and other places across the city.

Hutch plans to install more than 1000 Recharge Zones in the state by the end of 2004.

Speaking on the occasion, Samuel Selvakumar, Chief Executive Officer, Hutchison Essar South said, "Customer insight reveals that with increased usage especially in critical times, one's phone battery often gets depleted and needs to be recharged. Keeping in line with the Hutch philosophy of facilitating communication anytime anywhere, the recharge zone will ensure our customers enjoy uninterrupted service at all times."

Justice M F Saldhana, Retd. Karnataka High Court judge and a veteran of Bangalore, who inaugurated the Hutch Recharge Zone said, " I think this is a very exciting and thoughtful gesture from Hutch, I am sure that these Recharge Zones will be of immense use to people in need. These are bridges which will keep communication highway plying."
