Elaborating further on his plans, Kapil Wadhwa, MD, Champion Computers said, “The Netbooks that we have launched in the market are ideally suited for travelers and students. They are very light in weight are available at extremely low prices. Since the newly launched laptops have all the requisite features, they will be preferred in the education segment.”

We will be importing white box in the market and will supply to the resellers who want to sell them under their own brand. This area has not been targeted by any company.”

When inquired about the competition he is poised to face with the multinational companies and the strategies that will drive the laptops, Wadhwa said that it is a general perception that only large companies can sell laptop which is not true. “Small players can also sell laptops in the market if they are of same standard. The price at which we are driving the laptops are much lower in comparison to the large vendors and this strategy will attract the travelers and students whose main requirement is Internet connection in small budget,” he said.

Champion laptops are priced at Rs 14,500 and they will be sold through the channel only. Wadha is also planning to promote the brand through retail sector. The product will have one year of warranty.
