Centillium unveils Mustang chips for EPON's

BANGALORE: Centillium Communications Inc today announced the launch of Mustang 300 system-on-chip for Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPON) and High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL2) services for the Indian market.

Centillium’s newly developed PON portfolio features the Mustang 300 Optical Network Unit, 100 Optical Line Terminal and the Optical transceiver product families. These highly integrated and low power solutions enable cost effective delivery of premium Triple play services such as bandwidth-intensive IPTV and video-on-demand. Another product VDSL2 is the next generation of DSL technology that extends rates to 100Mbps and beyond.

Launching the product, Faraj Aalaei, chief executive officer, Centillium, said, “Both products are wholly developed in the Bangalore unit, which happens to be the biggest center of the company. We are launching these two with an emphasis on maximizing quality of service”.

“Company has invested nearly $210 million in the last five years on R&D. As India has got the biggest market share for the company,” informed Sriraman Chari, Chief Technology Officer, Centillium.

This technology enables rapid deployment of triple play services over DSL with exceptional quality of experience through high density, high speed and extended reach to a market for premium broadband 2.0 offerings such as multi channel video-on-demand and interactive gaming.

“Centillium’s Bangalore Center is a unique design center where activities from chip chip architecture to verifications are carried out along with development of necessary application boards and software,” said CS Mohan, vice president and general manager, Centillium. Centillium is a provider of broadband access solutions with innovative systems-level products for the consumer, enterprise and service provider markets.

Centillium Communications’ products include mixed-signal integrated circuits and related hardware and software applications for Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and Optical Networking equipment deployed in central offices and customer premises, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).
