MUMBAI: Cellnext, the software arm of Escorts group, has announced plans to launch new applications for cellular service providers this year. It would also launch mobile Internet platform, which would help in reverse billing to the service providers

Atanu Mandal, CEO, Cellnext said, "These killer applications are definitely going to create revolution in this growing cellular market." Global ME, AlertMe and RoamMe application platforms are based on SS7 signaling technology. The SS7 engine is a modular platform that provides extended features to telecom operators for these applications. Alert ME captures all the missed calls for a subscriber who has registered for this service. It sends the missed call details that include the date and time of call as SMS notifications as and when the subscriber is detected as active. "With missed calls accounting for 25 percent of total calls and voice mail system not really picking up in India, this can be a unique value added service", added Mandal.

Roam ME enables the operators to have visibility of mobile subscribers who roam in their local network (in-Roamers) and those subscribers who roam in another network (out-Roamers) and offer a host of services to the roaming subscribers. The application also captures the events for the operator's own subscribers roaming in another network. This allows the operators to offer a host of loyalty services for in roaming foreign subscribers.

Global ME allows enterprises to have their own identity in the form of a globally recognized mobile number. This means that anybody from across the world can access enterprise provided SMS based services. This frees up the enterprises from tying-up with the local operators and gives them a channel to interact with their global customer, vendor or partner base.

The company is also coming out with mobile Internet platform that would enable mobile operators to charge differentially for incoming SMS traffic. Currently, the operators can charge for only SMS MO (Mobile Originated) but not capable of charging for SMS MT (Mobile Terminated).

This differential reverse billing for differential traffic is going to be crucial for mobile operators and application vendors as it would not only open up a new revenue stream but also open up new content areas for revenue generation. Premium services like stock information or ringtone downloads can be charged. The testing of it is already going with Escotel.
