NEW DELHI: The Sri Lankan Government has switched-off mobile phone services for nearly half a million users in the island’s east region even as troops fighting the LTTE, Blogger News Network reported quoting officials.

“The Government has asked all the four telecom operators to switch off their networks to prevent LTTE making use of mobile phone services for military operations,” Telecommunications Regulatory Commission director general, Kanchana Ratwatte, told the media, adding that it was routine request whenever a major operation takes place.
