The first ever CeBIT Consumer Electronics event also scheduled for Shanghai

from May 29 to June 1, 2002, which would offer a platform to consumer electronic

equipment and systems manufacturers to showcase their products in the Chinese

market.

This is also for the first time that both the events would take place at

Shanghai’s New International Expo Center (SNIEC).

This was jointly announced by Hannover Fairs, China, managing director Jun

Qian, Deutsche Messe Ag, Hannover, project leader Michael Hoppe and, S J Patil

representative of Hannover fairs in India at a press meet in Bangalore. While

commenting from the Indian point of view Patil, said, "China would be a

very important partner for the Indian IT industry in the near future mainly for

two prime reasons. Firstly India can take advantage of China’s well

established manufacturing base in hardware and consumer electronics and in turn

India can offer its software expertise to China."

Patil further said that China has a big market in IT training and many leading
Indian IT training institutes have established their linkages in China. "It

would be a good opportunity for more Indian training institutes to visit China

and tap the vast potential there, Patil added.

Qian underlined China’s vast potential in electronics and the IT industry and
said that the two fairs would give an ideal opportunity for Indians to visit and

to participate in both the trade shows. He also said that China has continued to

pursue a policy of liberalization, which has been further consolidated by China’s

entry into the World Trade Organization.
