NEW DELHI, INDIA: The pilot programme of the Rs. 2,000 crore Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project will be launched by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today.

The CCTNS project which aimed at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of policing and sharing data among 14,000 police stations across the country is running three years behind the schedule.

The project was conceived by P Chidambaram, former Union Home Minister just after the 26/11 attack in Mumbai. The project would create a nation-wide networking infrastructure for evolution of IT-enabled-state- of-the-art tracking system around 'investigation of crime and detection of criminals'.
