Carrier IP Voice market grows 10pc in 2Q11

CALIFORNIA, USA: Overall Carrier IP telephony market revenues grew 10 per cent sequentially and were flat on a year-over-year basis, says Dell’Oro Group.

It adds that declines in media gateway and softswitch revenues offset high growth experienced by the voice application server (VAS) and session border controller (SBC) markets.

“In the second quarter, there were signs of increased competition in the Session Border Controller market,” said Chris DePuy, analyst, Dell’Oro Group. “Session Border Controller market revenues accelerated to 38 per cent year-over-year and saw one new entrant, Alcatel-Lucent, grab four percent revenue share.”

It also adds that 2Q11 VAS revenues grew over the last year by more than 15 per cent, driven in large part by the deployment of hosted business services by service providers. SBC revenues likewise grew by nearly 40 per cent over the year-ago quarter and is attracting the attention of many vendors.

Moreover, GENBAND maintained its revenue share lead in the wireline voice core market, while Ericsson remained number one in wireless voice core, new market entrant, Alcatel-Lucent, grabbed four per cent SBC market share.
