Cybertrust, an information security company whose clients include the world's biggest banks, securities firms and drug manufacturers, announced Fiorina's appointment on Thursday.

As Hewlett-Packard's CEO from 1999 to 2005, Fiorina was widely recognized as one of the most powerful women in corporate America. She's among only a handful of female CEOs who have run Fortune 500 companies.

Fiorina, 51, was dismissed from Hewlett-Packard in an unusually public firing, taking the heat for disappointing results from the company's May 2002 acquisition of Compaq Computer Corp.

A spokeswoman for Cybertrust declined to discuss Fiorina's compensation. In 2004, her Hewlett-Packard compensation package included nearly $3 million in salary and cash bonus payment.
