Can't install Kernel mode printer driver

This error can be a pain. You try to install a printer and get the error "The current printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 kernel-mode drivers". You need the printer and can't find an updated driver. What can you do about this?
