One person who made him think that way was Mahalingam, his mathematics teacher in school.

This Teachers Day, Rajendran remembered him for his fascinating way of introducing a new topic. For example: Trigonometry, the approach, the linking to the real world (in terms of heights and distances) and the discovery process.

Rajendran said he inspired and motivated students to think and apply their minds.

"Mahalingam was respected for the dignified way he conducted himself. He was very unassuming, straight forward and elegant in approach," said Rajendran.
