Canon unveils products for SOHOs

BANGALORE: Canon India Pvt. Ltd. today launched 20 new products targeted at consumers and SOHO segment. Canon’s array of products launched today includes, 7 digital cameras, 2 all-in-one photo printer for SOHO segment, the company’s first portable bluetooth mobile printer, 1 Bubblejet printer for professional colors, photo media paper for quality prints, 3 digital video camcorders, 1 Home Theatre projector, 1 projector for the office, 2 faxes and 1 Personal Family Copier.

According to IDC, in India the Digital Image landscape grew to Rs 1545 crores in 2003, which will reach to Rs 3085 crores by 2007. Digicams are poised to grow at 48 per cent, while Laser MFD’s will increase by 34 per cent, says IDC. Pointed Alok Bharadwaj, Director & GM, Consumer Imaging & Information Division, Canon India, “India is one of the fast moving countries who are transitioning to MFDs (multi functional devices). ” The company is planning to bring digital solutions directly to consumers through retail stores.

“We have come out of the office automation space to expand in the human space. Canon would be identifying 1000 retail stores across the country and establish the platform for selling new converged imaging devices for homes,” informed Alok. He added that stores that sell consumer electronics and lifestyle products would now sell these products.

As a part of its strategy, the company inaugurated its 18th (across the country) and the first Canon Retail Station in Bangalore. Canon is already present in 70 towns across the southern India. For expanding its base, the company will be spreading to 100 towns through an expanded network of 130 retail points and 35 service centres this year.
