Canon targets Rs 60,000 cr. CE market

NEW DELHI: Canon India is all set for a major thrust on the Rs 60,000 crore consumer electronics (CE) market in India.

The company has created a new CE division with to tap the CE market in India. Canon's CE portfolio consists of digicams, camcorders and photo printers.

The company has been selling CE products through the consumer channels. Now Canon India is planning to set up around 1,000 retail outlets in five major cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore - in the first phase starting September. It plans a nationwide expansion during the second phase.

Canon India CE and AV products national manager VP Sajeevan said: “Canon has appointed state-wise distributors for its CE products in these cities. They represent 70 percent of our total market.”

The company will give away a photo printer free with every Canon Digital IXUS 700 digicam. Canon India further plans to launch Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display-based (SED) television sets next year. It developed this technology with Toshiba.
