Deepawali is just two days away, and you might be planning to buy crackers. But you can only buy Green crackers in Delhi as the Supreme Court had ordered in 2018 that only green crackers can be sold to reduce emission levels by at least 30% in Delhi.

Yesterday, the wholesale firecracker markets in Delhi opened for customers wanting to buy green crackers. But the challenge was low availability and high prices. Only two varieties of firecrackers available — phuljhari (sparklers) and anar (flowerpots).

We spoke to sellers in Delhi NCR about green crackers, they are facing the issue of low quantity of green crackers. As the demand is high but supply is low, prices are going higher.

According to a report, there are only a few licensed shops in Delhi NCR who can sell green crackers, and only nine licences had been issued in Sadar Bazar. In Ghaziabad (U.P.) the administration has issued temporary licences to 53 traders.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Gudiya Fireworks, a green cracker manufacturing unit in Haryana, Jhajjar, owner Rajiv Kumar Jain, said that only two verities of crackers are being manufactured. About quantity, he mentioned producing green crackers takes three days to dry and their self-life is small, so we won’t be able to produce higher quantity.
