Call centre to provide information on new Hyderabad airport

HYDERABAD, INDIA: A call centre started functioning to provide information on the features and facilities of the new international airport at Hyderabad that is scheduled to commence commercial operations March 16.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), the developer of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, about 30 km from here, has awarded the contract for setting up and running the call centre services to Vajja Technologies Pvt Ltd (VTPL).

The call centre will work in two shifts till March 10 and thereafter it will be a 24-hour service, said a statement by GHIAL.

Customers can use this service to get information over phone.

Rajgopal Swami, chief financial officer (CFO) of GHIAL, said people can call the toll-free number 1800 102 2008 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

"We are very proud to be part of GHIAL's airport project and confident of delivering the world-class call-centre customer care services to the people," said Venkata Ramana, managing director of VTPL, a Hyderabad-based software solutions and services company.

The new airport is coming up on 5,500 acres of land and is designed to handle 12 million passengers per annum. The first phase of the project has been completed at a cost of Rs 24.78 billion ($619 million).

The airport is scheduled to be inaugurated by United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi March 14 while the commercial operations will commence two days later.

GHIAL is a joint venture promoted by GMR Infrastructure Ltd (63 percent), Malaysian Airports Holding Bhd (11 percent), Airports Authority of India (13 percent) and the Andhra Pradesh government (13 percent).
